Oregon EMS Recertification Requirements

CE hours, renewal deadlines, and mandatory training for Oregon EMRs, EMTs, AEMTs, EMT-Intermediates, and Paramedics

Important Notice: The information on this page is provided for general informational purposes only and should not be considered legal, regulatory, or professional advice. EMS recertification requirements vary by state and can change at any time. All EMS providers are responsible for verifying their specific certification, recertification, and continuing education requirements directly with their state EMS regulatory authority before relying on any information published here.

Quick answer: Oregon EMS recertification requires 12 CE hours for EMRs, 24 for EMTs, 36 for AEMTs and EMT-Intermediates, and 48 for Paramedics each two-year cycle, or, except for EMT-Intermediates, completion of National Registry (NREMT) recertification. EMT, AEMT, EMT-Intermediate, and Paramedic licenses expire June 30 of odd-numbered years, so the next deadline is June 30, 2027.

Oregon EMS providers have two paths to renew their state license: complete Oregon's state CE hours, or complete NREMT recertification. Oregon's state hour totals differ from NREMT's, and the state path includes a Culture, Race, Gender, and Ethnicity training requirement.

Oregon EMS License Renewal Deadlines

Oregon EMS licenses run on a two-year cycle. According to the Oregon Health Authority EMS Program:

CE must be completed between your last successful renewal and your current renewal application.

The Simplest Way to Recertify in Oregon

CE Solutions lets you put together your Oregon renewal around the path you are taking. A State EMS Recertification package covers your required CE hours in one purchase, so you are not piecing together individual courses to meet Oregon's categories. If you renew through the National Registry, choose an NREMT recertification package instead. Providers who only need their hours can choose the 24 CEU package (Oregon EMRs and EMTs) or the 48 CEU package (Oregon AEMTs and Paramedics).

Our Culture, Race, Gender, and Ethnicity course is coming soon as a standalone $25 course. Buy it by itself, or add it alongside any of our packages.

Whichever path you choose, finish before your license expires. Renewing on time is far simpler than reinstating a lapsed Oregon license or regaining an expired NREMT certification.

NREMT and Oregon Recertification

Oregon does not require NREMT certification for state license renewal. Under OAR 333-265-0110, you can renew by completing Oregon's state CE hours or by completing National Registry recertification.

If you maintain NREMT, you follow the National Continued Competency Program (NCCP) on the Registry's own cycle. The Oregon Health Authority has not designated topics for the NCCP local component. For NREMT details by level, see our NREMT recertification guide or the National Registry website.

Keeping NREMT alongside your Oregon license gives you portability if you ever work in another state, which is why many Oregon providers maintain both.

Oregon EMS Continuing Education Through CE Solutions

CE Solutions has provided EMS continuing education since 1997 and is a CAPCE-accredited provider (CESL1000). Oregon grants hour-for-hour credit for CAPCE-approved online courses that issue a certificate of completion, so CAPCE-accredited coursework is not subject to Oregon's 50 percent cap on unapproved self-study.
