Idaho EMS Recertification Requirements

Hours, category distribution, and EMS continuing education paths for Idaho EMRs, EMTs, AEMTs, and Paramedics

Important Notice: The information on this page is provided for general informational purposes only and should not be considered legal, regulatory, or professional advice. EMS recertification requirements vary by state and can change at any time. All EMS providers are responsible for verifying their specific certification, recertification, and continuing education requirements directly with their state EMS regulatory authority before relying on any information published here.

Idaho EMS providers have two paths to renew their state license: maintain National Registry (NREMT) certification, or follow Idaho state CE requirements. The NREMT path is simpler and hour-based. The state path requires more total hours distributed across specific CE categories, with pediatric minimums and per-category caps.

The Simplest Way to Recertify in Idaho: NREMT

For most Idaho EMS providers, maintaining NREMT certification is the simplest path to recertification. NREMT requires fewer total hours, no per-category distribution rules, and can be completed entirely through CAPCE-accredited online EMS continuing education.

The state path requires significantly more hours (roughly double NREMT in most cases), plus pediatric minimums, per-category caps, and at least 1 hour from every CE category. That’s a lot more planning to make sure your hours land in the right places.

About the Idaho State Path

If you follow the state CE path, Idaho requires that your CE hours be distributed across specific categories. Each provider must complete at least 1 hour in every CE category, with maximum caps on how many hours can come from any single category. Pediatric topics have their own minimum requirements.

Does Idaho require NREMT certification?

No, but maintaining NREMT is the simplest path to Idaho EMS recertification. The state path requires more total hours with category distribution rules that the NREMT path doesn’t have.

How many CE hours do I need for Idaho recertification?

NREMT path: 16 hours for EMR, 40 for EMT, 50 for AEMT, 60 for Paramedic. State path: 24 hours for EMR, 48 for EMT, 54 for AEMT, 72 for Paramedic, with category distribution requirements and pediatric minimums.

What’s the pediatric requirement for Idaho?

Idaho state path requires minimum pediatric CE hours: 2 hours for EMR, 4 for EMT, 6 for AEMT, and 8 for Paramedic. These hours count toward your total CE requirement.

What’s the simplest way to recertify in Idaho?

Maintain NREMT certification and complete your recertification through CAPCE-accredited online CE. This eliminates the category distribution complexity of the state path and works for both NREMT and Idaho state license renewal.
