Which NREMT Package Do I Need

The decision comes down to one question: do you already have CEUs covering your state or local and individual requirements, or do you need everything in one place?

Buy an NCCP Core package

Ideal if you already have other CEUs for the state or local and individual requirements and only need the national core. The 20 hour Core covers EMR and EMT. The 30 hour Core covers AEMT and Paramedic.

Buy a full recertification program

An all-inclusive package that includes all required CEUs: national, state or local, and individual. The 40 hour program covers EMR and EMT-Basic. The 60 hour program covers Advanced EMT and Paramedic.

NCCP Hour Requirements by Level

The National Continued Competency Program splits recertification into three components. The national component covers topics set by the National Registry. The state or local component is set by your state office, agency, or medical director. The individual component is yours to choose based on your own practice.

NCCP hour requirements by certification level and the CE Solutions package that covers each. Confirm current totals with the National Registry before you plan your cycle.

Already have some hours? The NCCP Core packages exist for exactly this. If your agency or medical director assigns your state or local and individual hours, buy the Core package and skip paying for components you already have covered.

Deadlines and Your Recertification Cycle

National Registry certifications run on a two year cycle. Hours completed inside your current cycle are what count, and the renewal window opens well before the deadline. The most common reason providers end up scrambling is waiting until the final weeks.

Your state license renews on a separate schedule with its own hour requirements. Check both. Our requirements by state pages cover what each state office expects, and our EMS recertification guide explains how national and state requirements fit together.

What Our Members Say

Your CEU program is like gold to me. I was close to expiring and thought I had enough hours to renew my license but I only had half of the required amount. I called your office on Saturday morning and was amazed to hear someone answer the phone.

C. Thomas

I was a little skeptical at first but I called my state EMS to verify that these are valid credit hours and that I could do all of my CE credits with your company. They said yes. This will save me a lot of time and money.

Randy S.

As a paramedic who returned to college to complete a degree in biology and chemistry, I had no time during this last cycle to physically attend enough CE classes. Thank you.

J. Martinez

NREMT Recertification Questions

How many hours do I need to recertify with the NREMT?

Under the NCCP model the totals are 16 hours for EMR, 40 for EMT, 50 for AEMT, and 60 for Paramedic, split across national, state or local, and individual components. Our 40 hour program covers EMR and EMT-Basic in full. The 60 hour program covers Advanced EMT and Paramedic.

How much does NREMT recertification cost?

The all-inclusive recertification programs are $219 for EMR and EMT and $319 for AEMT and Paramedic. The NCCP Core packages, which cover the national core only, are $169 and $259. The 24 hour remedial program is $219. Department rates are available for agencies renewing multiple providers.

Should I buy an NCCP Core package or a full program?

Buy a Core package if you already have other CEUs covering your state or local and individual requirements. Buy a full 40 or 60 hour program if you need all required CEUs in one place. If you are not sure what your agency provides, the full program is the safer choice.

How long do I have to complete my hours?

All packages are valid for one recertification period and expire either upon completion of the included hours or after one year, whichever comes first. Courses are self-paced, so most providers spread them across the cycle rather than block them together.

Are these courses accepted by the National Registry?

Yes. Our courses are CAPCE accredited and include attendance verification to meet CAPCE, state and NREMT guidelines. CE Solutions has been serving EMS providers for 29 years and has awarded more than 10 million CEUs.

What is the remedial program for?

The National Registry requires 24 hours of remedial education for students who have failed the NREMT EMT-B exam three times. Our 24 hour remedial program provides that training so you can retake the exam.

What happens if my National Registry certification expires?

Once a certification lapses you cannot simply add hours and renew. Depending on how long it has been expired, the path back may involve a reentry process or retesting. Contact the National Registry directly to find out which applies to your situation.

Do these hours count toward my state license too?

Often, but not always. States that require specific topics or specific hour totals may not be fully covered by an NCCP aligned plan. Check the requirements for your state, and look at the combined fire and EMS state packages if you need both.

Can I get fire CEUs in the same account?

Yes. Providers carrying both credentials can access firefighter and hazmat awareness CEUs alongside EMS courses. See the state recertification packages for the combined fire and EMS options.
