Important Notice for Virginia EMS Providers

CE SOLUTIONS STATE APPROVAL PENDING
CE Solutions Courses Not Yet Approved for Virginia State Recertification

CE Solutions is in the process of getting our EMS continuing education hours approved by the Virginia Office of EMS (VOEMS). At this moment, our CAPCE-accredited CE hours are accepted by NREMT but are not yet approved for direct submission to VOEMS for Virginia state EMS license renewal.

If you maintain NREMT, CE Solutions can serve your recertification needs. If you are recertifying through Virginia’s state-only path, you will need to use a VOEMS-approved CE provider at this time.

Virginia EMS providers have two paths to renew their state license: maintain National Registry (NREMT) certification, or follow Virginia state CE requirements through VOEMS. Virginia does not require you to maintain NREMT certification. You can choose either path based on what works best for your career and certification goals.

Worth knowing: It is almost always easier to keep your NREMT current than to regain it after it lapses. If you maintain NREMT, you can use CE Solutions for your full Virginia recertification through the NREMT pathway.

NREMT publishes specific recertification requirements for each certification level. Visit the official page that matches your certification level to see the most current requirements.

If You Choose Virginia’s State Path

If you are recertifying through Virginia’s state-only path (without maintaining NREMT), CE Solutions is not yet able to provide approved CE hours for direct submission to VOEMS. You will need to use a VOEMS-approved CE provider for this pathway.

Ensure you are following VOEMS requirements to maintain your state EMS license. Contact the Virginia Office of EMS directly for the current list of approved CE providers and Virginia-specific recertification requirements.

Virginia EMS Recertification FAQs

Does Virginia require NREMT certification?

No. Virginia EMS providers can choose between maintaining NREMT certification or following Virginia’s state-only CE requirements through VOEMS. NREMT is not required, but many Virginia EMS providers maintain NREMT for portability across state lines.

Can I use CE Solutions for Virginia state recertification?

Only through the NREMT pathway. If you maintain NREMT, CE Solutions can serve your recertification because our CAPCE-accredited courses are accepted by NREMT and Virginia accepts NREMT as a complete recertification pathway. If you are recertifying through Virginia’s state-only path, CE Solutions is not yet a VOEMS-approved provider, and you will need to use a VOEMS-approved CE provider.

Is CE Solutions working on Virginia state approval?

Yes. CE Solutions is in the process of obtaining direct VOEMS approval for our CE courses. We will update this page when our courses are approved for direct state-only submission. In the meantime, our courses remain fully accepted for NREMT recertification, which Virginia recognizes as a complete pathway.

What EMS continuing education does Virginia accept?

Virginia accepts CE through two pathways: NREMT recertification (which uses CAPCE-accredited CE) and VOEMS-approved state CE. Make sure your CE meets the requirements of whichever pathway you choose.

How many CE hours do I need for Virginia recertification?

If maintaining NREMT, you’ll complete the NREMT NCCP hours: 16 for EMR, 40 for EMT, 50 for AEMT, 60 for Paramedic. If following Virginia’s state-only path, contact VOEMS directly for current state CE hour requirements.

Where do I submit my Virginia EMS renewal?

Virginia EMS renewals are processed through the Virginia Office of EMS (VOEMS). Contact them directly for application instructions, the list of approved CE providers, status questions, or licensure inquiries.
